What Will Classes Be Like?

Class Picture

This is a perfectly legitimate question asked by many people who visit the training center before enrolling!

To begin with, novice students will work with a senior student (who has taken classes on teaching our arts) for a few classes privately to learn very important basic principles and techniques as well as to let you get comfortable with the school environment. After the first week, you will train with the rest of the novices in a group class (which is specially designed for new students), yet the environment allows for individual attention.

At the beginning of class, you will go through a series of stretching exercises. You only need to go as far as your body will allow and over time you will become more flexible without a lot of pain and you will learn to RELAX and let go of the day’s stress.

Next, you will drill over basic punching, blocking, striking, and kicking techniques. These are taught to you one at a time and the instructors do their best make sure you not only understand HOW a movement is performed, but also WHY! Everything is explained in a concise manner. One will also learn special ancient breathing techniques, which will enhance physical power while promoting relaxation.  Together we will take our time and work step-by-step.

After drills, we go into the class material for the day. This may involve basic self-defense, footwork drills, joint-twisting techniques, the study of vital points on the body, learning to use internal energy, or any number of things. At the end of class, you will often do some light exercise to build stamina and spirit. Again, you do only what you are capable of at that time.
